(AP) ? Georgia's richest man, billionaire and philanthropist Bidzina Ivanishvili seems to have it all ? a head-spinning fortune, the respect of his country and gleaming, art-filled palaces across the globe, including one where zebras and pink flamingoes roam.

What else could he want?

Political power, it turns out, and that has put him on a collision course with President Mikhail Saakashvili ? his onetime friend and ally.

Since announcing his ambitions a year ago, Ivanishvili has been stripped of his Georgian citizenship and hit with fines of tens of millions of dollars. But he is undeterred in leading his Georgian Dream party into parliamentary elections next week that he hopes will make him prime minister, set to become the country's most powerful job after legislative changes next year.

The outcome will have profound consequences for this small but strategically located South Caucasus nation, which has been the West's most loyal ally in a troubled, energy-rich region.

The 56-year-old Ivanishvili, worth an estimated $6.4 billion, was an early supporter of Saakashvili after he came to power following the 2003 Rose Revolution demonstrations that drove out the corruption-riddled regime of Eduard Shevardnadze. But Ivanishvili, who made his fortune in Russia, gradually became disenchanted and began to fear that his disagreements with Saakashvili could imperil his future.

In an interview with The Associated Press, he suggested that his entry into politics was at least partly to shield him from government pressure.

"When you enter politics, it gives you some kind of protection," he said in his residence outside the Black Sea resort of Batumi. But he insists that his rags-to-riches story also points to a deeper drive to help his country: "A smart, gifted person can do things for himself, but also for his friends, for his village, for his country."

Ivanishvili was the youngest of five children in a hilltop village so poor and remote that a rickety old truck brought supplies just once a month. He often had no shoes and dreamt of owning a bicycle. After earning an engineering degree in the capital Tbilisi, he moved to Moscow, where he received a Ph.D. in labor economy.

When Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev launched his perestroika campaign and gradually allowed private entrepreneurship, Ivanishvili and a friend seized the spirit of the times. They began importing personal computers ? rarities in the Soviet Union that cost the equivalent of two or three cars. Sometimes he would approach foreigners at cafes and plead with them to bring computers on their next visit.

In 1990, a year before the Soviet Union collapsed, Ivanishvili and his partners amassed enough money to start a bank, Rossiyskiy Kredit, which became a leading financial institution. Its first office was at a kindergarten, and foreign partners coming for meetings stumbled over miniature toddler toilets. As his bank expanded, Ivanishvili started buying into mining and metals plants across Russia, and then reselling the shares at huge profit.

Skeptics wonder whether it was possible to amass such a fortune honestly, but Ivanishvili insists that he always ran a clean business.

"I never violated any laws," he said. "I never betrayed or deceived anyone."

For years, Ivanishvili was a quiet benefactor of thousands of his impoverished countrymen and also of Saakashvili's government, building schools and hospitals, buying new boots and blankets for the military and, he says, even paying for Saakashvili's inauguration. He also collected art and exotic animals and erected futuristic residences across the country, like a glass-and-steel fortress nestled on a hilltop in the capital Tbilisi.

But Ivanishvili says he broke off ties with Saakashvili after the leader cracked down on opposition protests in 2007, tightened control over media, and Georgia found itself in a brief but disastrous war with Russia in 2008. Saakashvili's government was further tainted in recent days when TV channels funded by Ivanishvili released videos of inmates at a Tbilisi prison being beaten and raped with objects, which sparked angry street protests.

"He has built a tough, authoritarian government while at the same time trying to prove to Europe and America that he is building democracy," Ivanishvili said. "The people have been deceived, including me."

The two men's feud seems highly personal.

Saakashvili denounces Ivanishvili as a Russian stooge, referring to his Georgian Dream coalition as "forces of darkness." The president's camp also accuses Ivanishvili of corrupting Georgian politics and voters with his wealth ? which is equivalent to roughly half of Georgia's GDP.

Ivanishvili, in turn, portrays Saakashvili as a dim-witted former protege who used to call him a "hundred" times a day to ask for advice on running the country.

An August opinion survey by U.S.-based National Democratic Institute suggested that Saakashvili's United National Movement leads the polls with 37 percent support, while Georgian Dream has 12 percent. But Ivanishvili claims he has momentum on his side, with support surging since the release of the prison rape video.

So far Ivanishvili's political career brought him nothing but trouble.

He was stripped of Georgian citizenship a year ago, shortly after he announced his entry into politics. The official reason was that he also had a French passport ? and Georgia prohibits dual nationality. Even though parliament then adopted a law allowing Ivanishvili to run for office as an EU citizen, Ivanishvili said the loss of Georgian citizenship was deeply upsetting, especially considering the $1.5 billion he says he has spent on charity here.

The government then followed by fining him tens of millions of dollars over campaign funding violations, saying that distributing satellite TV dishes and offering a fleet of cars to his party amounts to vote-buying according to recently passed electoral laws that ban corporate donations to parties.

Some observers said the changes were necessary. Others, including Maina Kiai, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights, said the legislation was aimed at preventing "certain individuals" from running in the upcoming vote ? an apparent reference to Ivanishvili.

Ivanishvili bristles at Saakashvili's accusations that if elected he would serve Russia, not Georgia ? calling such suspicions "laughable." Ivanishvili renounced his long-held Russian citizenship before launching his political career and has sold off his Russian assets to sever his financial ties with Moscow. Most of his assets are now in Western banks and about $1 billion in art.

Some experts agree that he's his own man, pointing to the fact that he had funded Saakashvili, the Kremlin's arch-foe, for years.

"All the evidence suggests that he is no one's project but his own," said Thomas de Waal, a Caucasus expert with the Carnegie Endowment. At the same, time the Kremlin is likely to court Ivanishvili, eager to have someone unseat Saakashvili.

Ivanishvili promises aggressive and quick reforms that would strengthen democratic institutions and prompt foreign and local businessmen to invest in the economy. He intends to pursue a pro-Western policy and one day bring Georgia into NATO, while at the same time unfreezing economic ties with Russia ? something he himself acknowledges would be a very complicated task. "You just need to wait for the right time and without doubt improve relations with Russia," Ivanishvili said.

Ivanishvili vows that he will not be corrupted by power, noting that as a businessman he only promoted those who were not afraid to argue with him. But when describing how he would reform Georgia, he revealed some monarchic overtones.

"In such small countries," Ivanishvili said, "everything depends on one person, everyone else follows immediately."

US cable giants prepare console challenge with streaming games ...

Traditional gaming has held its own in the face of increasing opposition this generation ? but its stiffest challenge may be yet to come.

American cable TV giants AT&T, Verizon and Time Warner are readying a new push into streaming gaming that will see subscribers able to play titles directly through their cable boxes.

Bloomberg?reports that trials are scheduled to start later this year with a view to widespread deployment in 2013.

We?re not just talking about Zynga-style casual games either ? it is understood that the cable companies are very serious about offering console-rivalling triple-A titles.

An initiative that would allow users to use their smartphone as a controller is being explored, though most providers will likely also offer a dedicated joypad.

The seriousness of the threat posed to the console gaming model should not be underestimated. In the US cable TV is effectively standard. By their nature, cable TV boxes are built purely to deliver high-speed data transfer ? the ideal environment for cloud gaming to flourish.

And should we arrive at a point where consumers can access both casual and triple-A games through their cable box, the incentive to spend hundreds of dollars on a dedicated gaming console will be significantly reduced.

Also note that companies such as AT&T and Time Warner enjoy a perk that rivals such as OnLive did not ? very deep pockets. Taking a short-term hit with an eye on the long-term gain is business as usual for them.

When contacted by Bloomberg nearly all of the cable providers involved admitted to actively exploring options regarding cloud-based content.

Everything You Need to Know About Car Insurance

There are more cars and drivers hitting the road every year. With so many vehicles on the road, crashes will happen. The difference between a small bother and major pain can be car insurance. So how do you know what insurance you need and how much to buy? Auto insurance protects you by paying for damage or injury you cause others while driving your car, damage to your car or injury to you or your passengers from a crash, and certain other occurrences, such as theft. Auto insurance is required by law in all states and provinces. Without insurance, you risk having to pay the total cost of any harm you cause others or of repairing or replacing your car if it is damaged or stolen.Liability pays for damages due to bodily injury and property damage to others for which you are responsible. Bodily injury damages include medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering. Property damage includes damaged property and loss of use of property. If you are sued, it also pays your defense and court costs. Higher recommended insurances are available that cover more than the lower, state-mandated insurance. Personal injury protection: This is required in some states and is optional in others. Sometimes referred to as no-fault coverage, this pays the medical treatment for you or your passengers regardless of who was at fault. It may also pay for lost earnings, replacement of services and funeral expenses. The minimum amount of this insurance is typically set by the state. Medical payments: This type of coverage is available in non-no-fault states and will pay no matter who is responsible for the accident. It pays for an insured person?s reasonable and necessary medical and funeral expenses for bodily injury from an accident. Collision: This pays for damage to your car caused by an accident. Comprehensive: Applies if your car is stolen or damaged by causes other than collision, including fire, wind, hail, flood or vandalism. Uninsured motorist: This pays for damages when an insured person is injured in a crash caused by another person who does not have liability insurance or by a person who cannot be identified (usually a hit-and-run driver). Under-insured motorist: This pays for damages when an insured person is injured in a crash caused by another person who does not have enough liability insurance to cover the full amount of the damages. Other coverages, like car rental and emergency road service, are also available. What you pay for auto insurance varies by company and will depend on several factors, including: *Your selected coverage *Your vehicle?s make and model * Your driving record * Your age, gender and marital status and * Where you live Some have come to think of auto insurance as a necessary evil, but it can truly rescue your economic health Evaluate your needs, research your options and with the guidance of your insurance agent make the decision that best suits you.

PFT: Jets surprisingly cut veteran LB Thomas

Chandler Jones, Kevin KolbAP

We mentioned earlier in the week this was a big weekend for the Jones family, as?Jon defends his UFC light heavyweight belt tonight, while Chandler and Arthur face off in tomorrow night?s Patriots-Ravens game.

But the struggles they?ve faced throughout life, and continue to, makes their story about more than an athletic coincidence.

?All of this hasn?t dawned on me yet,? Jon Jones told Alex Marvez of FoxSports.com about his family?s success. ?We?re all still at the very young stages of our careers. I have this thing where I?m really big against complacency, so I don?t want accept the attitude like, ?We did it!? because we haven?t done it yet. Things could go wrong. You?re on top of the world one year and the next you?re borrowing money.

?I think there?s much more to come, but I am really happy for my parents. They can look at this being a success story at this point.?

Arthur II and Camille Jones? boys have made names for themselves, after struggling through tragedies in their younger years, and fighting to make things easier for their parents.

Their oldest sister Carmen died of brain cancer at age 18, and all helped with her care during her struggle.

Now, they?re paying back their mother for the years she looked after them.

Camille Jones has lost almost all her sight because of complications of diabetes. She?s also on dialysis and awaits a kidney transplant.

Chandler?s paying for her medical insurance, while Jon?s hired a nurse and a chef to help their parents, who moved them out of a rough neighborhood to the small town of Endicott, N.Y. as children. ?I remember my dad telling our family we were going so we could have a better life,? Jon said.

Their parents will be in Toronto for Jon?s fight tonight, then head to Baltimore to see the other two. And for all they?ve been through, they try to keep things in perspective.

?Life hasn?t changed that much,? Arthur Jones II said. ?People at the church are very happy for me, but there?s no big brouhaha of, ?That?s Mr. Jones. He?s a famous dad.?

With Jon one of the top fighters in the world, and Chandler emerging as a contributor for the Patriots as a first-round pick, that could be changing, soon.

But as impressive is the way the family has banded together for each other.

Hawk flies into car, lands in driver?s lap

(Fairfield Animal Control)

A red-tailed hawk that flew into a car traveling on a highway in Connecticut?landing on the driver's lap?has been released back into the wild.

Dan Caitlin was driving along the Merritt Parkway in Trumbull, Conn., last week when the hawk flew into the windshield of his car, bounced off the side window and fell into his lap, animal control officials told the Fairfield Citizen:

Caitlin drove for a short distance with the stunned hawk in his lap, before pulling over and putting the raptor into the passenger seat. When he got home, he called the animal control staff, which picked up the injured hawk and kept it overnight before bringing it to a local veterinarian.

Fairfield Animal Control officer Paul Miller told Yahoo News that the injured bird was transferred to a local veterinarian, treated and released several days later.

The leafy suburb has had more than its share of raptor news.

In March, town officials were forced to hire a falconer from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to capture a territorial red-shouldered hawk that had reportedly been attacking residents.

The Connecticut Post detailed one of the attacks reported at a high school:

An administrator at the high school on Unquowa Road called police around 2:30 p.m. after she saw the hawk swoop down and graze the head of a female student. The student fled the area immediately after the attack.

The falconer eventually nabbed one of two hawks purportedly going after Fairfield Ludlowe High's students.

Meanwhile, two other injured red-tailed hawks?including one that also collided with a car on the Merritt Parkway?are slated to be released back into the wild at the 14th annual Hawk Watch Festival in Greenwich, Conn., on Sept. 22.

"A raptor getting struck by a car?it's extremely common," Peter Reid, associate director of Wildlife in Crisis, told the paper.

According to WildlifeofCT.com, red-tailed hawks are common in Connecticut:

The adults can weigh an average of 2 1/2 pounds and their wingspans are generally around 4 feet. [They] use open fields and meadows for hunting and tall trees for nesting. They like to live in forests near open areas. These hawks are active during the day and are adept soarers. These hawks will feed on small rodents, smaller birds, reptiles, and amphibians. They usually locate prey with vision from a high perch and swoop down to capture it in their talons.

In New England red-tailed hawks breed beginning in about March. A male and female pair will perform aerial acrobatics as a form of courtship.

Advancing the treatment of trauma

ScienceDaily (Sep. 20, 2012) ? With traumatic injuries claiming almost six million lives a year, improvements in care, including in the challenging areas of brain and bone injuries, and haemorrhage, are urgently needed.

Leading medical journal The Lancet? September 21 published a series led by researchers and clinicians from the National Trauma Research Institute (NTRI), a collaboration between Monash University and Alfred Health, which notes the difficulties and charts the progress in improving three critical areas of trauma care.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the leading cause of trauma-related deaths in developed trauma systems, haemorrhagic shock leads to most preventable trauma deaths and major musculoskeletal injury is the leading cause of long-term, trauma-related disability.

Series editor and trauma surgeon, Monash University's Professor Russell Gruen, is the Director of the National Trauma Research Institute.

"In the case of many surgeries and interventions, we're treating injuries which the body is just not naturally equipped to overcome. Managing trauma on this scale is very challenging, both in terms of immediately treating the patient and in reducing the severity of long-term disability," Professor Gruen said.

"It's also a very challenging area to research, due to the severe and complex nature of the injuries and the differences between patients -- in terms of age and other health problems. It's very difficult to obtain a sufficiently large and controlled sample in order to generate meaningful and widely-applicable results."

The articles present laboratory research and clinical trial results in TBI, haemorrhagic shock and musculoskeletal injury, comprehensively collated and analysed by NTRI researchers and leading collaborators from around the globe. The authors concluded that robust and innovative research was vital to clinical advances and identified the avenues that showed the most promise in terms of improving patient outcomes.

Professor Gruen said there was international recognition of the need to improve trauma care and translate promising laboratory findings to treatments in the emergency department and ongoing care.

"Dedicated collaborative efforts, such as the NTRI, are actively working to overcome the challenges that traumatic injury presents and I am confident that we will continue to see improvements in care."

You Console Is Full Of Crap. Clean It Out. - Game Revolution

This is a picture of what my Xbox 360 had in it just one layer of perforated plastic down. See all that gray stuff? It's dust. Copious amounts of dust piling up and falling all over itself to clog every possible orifice in my 360 hardware. I realized I had a problem when I began to favor my PS3 if only for the simple fact that it was QUIETER than my Xbox 360.

If you don't have the luxury of buying a new console every few years, you're probably facing the same issue I am, but you haven't dug out the screw driver or the plastic spudger. Luckily, Dust-Off's PC and Console cleaning kit made it easier on me.

You don't have to remove the shell of your 360 to use the cleaning kit, but that's what I did to ensure that I could get as much grime out of my console as possible. I stopped at the point where I'd have to go out and buy a special screw driver to keep tearing the 360 down.

Using the included cleaning swabs, I did my best to remove any hard grime resting beneath the on-off switch and A/V slots. I followed that up the main attraction: the compressed-gas duster. I started blasting my 360 and plumes of dust flew out of the machine. The compressed-gas is powerful enough to project garbage out of your machine, while it's not going to push around any of the hardware components.

While compressed-dusters are commonplace enough, Falcon's set also comes with formulated screen cleaner and a microfiber cloth. If you're not going to take your console or PC apart, piece by piece, this set will do everything you need it do. In the end, I couldn't be happier with the result. My 360 is cleaner, runs faster, and is as quiet as it was when I first brought it home from the store.

Falcon's Dust-Off Gaming Gear Cleaning Kit runs $15.99 and you can buy direct from their website.

Will a warming planet and melting sea ice spur development in the Arctic?

Researchers predict that nearly ice-free summers are on the way, although it?s not yet clear when this will happen.

By Wynne Parry,?LiveScience Contributor / September 20, 2012

Ice-free summers in the Arctic are on their way, say scientists, who suggest various implications, from threatening polar bears that depend on the ice for habitat (photo taken in 2008) to making shipping easier and faster through the Northwest Passage.

Arctic sea-ice extent shrank to an unprecedented low this summer, part of a long-term decline in the icy white cap over the far northern ocean.

Researchers predict that nearly ice-free summers are on the way, although it?s not yet clear when this will happen. This shift has implications for climate ? in particular, it is expected to aggravate global warming ? and for the animals, such as polar bears and walruses, which depend on the ice for habitat.

But the loss of?ice over the Arctic Ocean?also opens up the possibility for increased shipping, tourism, oil and gas exploration, and fishing. But this potential development raises challenges with which nations will have to grapple, said Anne Siders, a postdoctoral researcher with the Columbia Center for Climate Change Law, to an audience at Columbia University Wednesday (Sept. 19).

Siders was among a panel of researchers who discussed the science behind the declining sea ice, the suite of changes occurring in the Arctic and public perception of it. [10 Things You Need to Know About Arctic Sea Ice]

A predictably open Arctic Ocean creates opportunities and challenges for nations that ring the Arctic. Here are some of them.

The opportunities: ??

Fishing:?Warming ocean temperatures, migrating fish and changes in sea ice may create conditions favorable to the development of new?commercial fisheries?within the Arctic, according to the U.S. National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). A U.S. plan, approved in 2009, temporarily prohibits commercial fishing in U.S. Arctic waters until more information is available.

More ship traffic:?A journey through the?Northwest Passage?north of Canada or along the Northern sea route over Russia can cut thousands of miles off a trip that could otherwise require a ship to travel through the Panama Canal or the Suez Canal. Between 1906 and 2006, only 69 ships traveled through the Northwest Passage, said Michael Byers, professor of political science at the University of British Columbia, in a recent article in the Canadian newspaper? The Globe and Mail. In 2010, 18 traveled through, and in 2011, 22 made the trip. As ice in the passage has dwindled, tourist trips on cruise ships and private yachts has increased, the?Canadian Broadcasting Corporation?reports.

Gas and oil:?The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) estimated in 2008 that the Arctic holds a wealth of undiscovered energy reserves: 90 billion of barrels of oil, 1,670 trillion cubic feet (47.3 trillion cubic meters) of natural gas, and 44 billion barrels of natural gas liquids ?most of it offshore. The quest for these resources is underway, in spite of setbacks. The oil company Shell announced on Monday(Sept. 17) it was delaying until next year plans to drill off the Alaskan Arctic coast. The loss of ice would make this prospecting easier.

NASA rover snaps pictures of an eclipse from Mars

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida | Wed Sep 19, 2012 6:24pm EDT

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (Reuters) - NASA's Mars rover Curiosity, dispatched to determine if the planet most like Earth in the solar system could have supported microbial life, has taken on a second job - moonlighting as an astronomer.

Last week, Curiosity outfitted its high-resolution camera with protective filters and took pictures of the sun as Phobos, one of Mars' two small moons, sailed by.

It was a tricky shoot. Phobos and its sister moon Deimos are closer to Mars than our moon is to Earth, so they shoot across the sky relatively quickly. Phobos takes less than eight hours to circle Mars. Deimos takes about 30 hours to make the trip.

Last Thursday, the moons started to cross paths.

"Phobos grazed the edge of the sun, as seen from Curiosity. We had basically a partial eclipse," astronomer Mark Lemmon, with Texas A&M University, told reporters during a conference call on Wednesday.

The rover took more than 600 images with its left and right cameras, about 100 of which captured some part of the eclipse. Not all the pictures have been radioed back to Earth.

Curiosity has a partner in the project. From the other side of the planet, the rover Opportunity was expected to try to shoot the eclipse on Wednesday.

Aside from pretty pictures, the images should help scientists learn more about Mars' internal structure. Like Earth's moon, Mars' moons have some gravitational pull that slightly change the planet's shape.

"That in turn changes the moons' orbits -- Phobos is slowing down, Deimos is speeding up, like our moon," Lemmon said. "This is something that happens very slowly over time."

In 10 million to 15 million years, Phobos is expected to be so close to Mars that it will be torn apart by the planet's gravity.

The moons' passages by the sun, captured by NASA's rovers, help scientists nail down their orbits and determine how fast they are changing. That information in turn is used to assess how much Mars is deformed as the moons go by.

Curiosity resumed skywatching on Tuesday, when both moons passed overhead.

"This was a really hard thing to do. The timing was very precise," Lemmon said.

The next Martian eclipses will take place in about 11 months. By then, Curiosity should be in a better vantage point.

The rover's eventual science target is a three-mile- high mound of sediment rising from the floor of the Gale Crater impact basin where Curiosity landed six weeks ago.

Charles Champion, the Executive Vice President of Engineering at Airbus, said,??our engineers are continuously encouraged to think widely and come up with ?disruptive? ideas which will assist our industry in meeting the 2050 targets we have signed up to.?

?These and the other tough environmental targets will only be met by a combination of investment in smarter aircraft design and optimising the environment in which the aircraft operates. That is why our latest Future by Airbus Smarter Skies concepts focus on not just what we fly but, how we may fly in 2050 and beyond.?

Airbus have already surmised that the optimisation of the Air Traffic Management (ATM) technology used on Airbus planes would enable the flight times in Europe and the US to be reduced by an average of 13 minutes.

By taking 30 million as the average number of flights in Europe and the US, then reducing those flights by 13 minutes would equate to a saving of 5 million hours of flight time, 9 million tonnes of fuel each year, which is more than 28 million tonnes of CO2 emissions.?(More from Oilprice.com:?Why Ben Bernanke's QE3 is a Game Changer)

Airbus listed five concepts in its report which could be implemented across all sectors of the aviation industry in order to reduce all forms of waste (fuel, time, CO2, etc).

1.??? Aircraft take-off in continuous ?eco-climb?.
2.??? Aircraft in free flight and formation along ?express skyways?.
3.??? Low-noise, free-glide approaches and landings.
4.??? Low emission ground operations.
5.??? Powering future aircraft and infrastructure with sustainable biofuels.

With continued improvements to aircraft design, alternative energy sources, and new methods for more efficient flying, Airbus predict that the aviation industry will become more and more sustainable as the years pass. Rupert Everett Creates Stir with Anti-Gay Parenting Comment

Rupert Everett has stirred up quite a bit of controversy with comments made to The Sunday Times Magazine in Great Britain.

The actor, who came out of the closet at age 18, told the publication that his mother has met his boyfriend and gets along with him very well - but would prefer if her child came home instead with a wife and kids.

“She thinks children need a father and a mother and I agree with her,” Everett said. “I can’t think of anything worse than being brought up by two gay dads. Some people might not agree with that. Fine! That’s just my opinion."

Rupert Everett on the Red Carpet

Expecting backlash, Everett added:

"I'm not speaking on behalf of the gay community. In fact, I don't feel like I'm part of any 'community.' The only community I belong to is humanity and we've got too many children on the planet, so it's good not to have more."

Ben Summerskill, chief executive of Stonewall (a British gay rights group) reacted swiftly to Everett's comments, releasing a statement that reads:

"Rupert should get out a little bit more to see the facts for himself. There is absolutely no evidence that the kids of gay parents suffer in the way they are being brought up or in how they develop."

What do you think of Rupert Everett's anti-gay parenting stance? It is...

(AP) ? Thousands of people have lined the streets in gloomy Scottish weather to give Andy Murray a rousing welcome to his hometown of Dunblane as he celebrated his Olympic and U.S. Open victories.

Britain's first Grand Slam winner in 76 years arrived on an open-top bus before walking slowly through the town's streets, signing autographs as the crowds chanted his name, waved Scottish flags and lifted homemade placards.

Murray says "so many people, so much support, it's been a bit overwhelming ? it will take a few days to sink in."

The 25-year-old Murray beat Novak Djokovic in five sets to win the U.S. Open on Monday and end his agonizing wait for a major title, five weeks after he routed Roger Federer in the final of the Olympic tournament.

Libyan President Mohammed el-Megarif walks in his living room, prior to his interview with the Associated Press regarding the attack that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens Tuesday night, in Benghazi, Libya, Friday, Sept. 16, 2012. " It has nothing to do with the Prophet Film, the Prophet film was displayed six months ago, it is a fake excuse, of course we reject any insult to the prophet or to Islam, but it is total fabrication" el-Megarif said. (AP Photo/Mohammad Hannon)

(AP) ? Hundreds of Pakistanis protesting an anti-Islam film broke through a barricade near the U.S. Consulate in the southern city of Karachi on Sunday, sparking clashes with police in which one demonstrator was killed and more than a dozen injured.

In a move that could escalate tensions around the Arab world, the leader of the Hezbollah militant group called for protests against the movie, saying protesters should not only 'express our anger' at U.S. embassies but urge leaders to act.

The film, which denigrates Islam's Prophet Muhammad, has sparked violent protests in many Muslim countries in recent days, including one in Libya in which the U.S. ambassador was killed. The U.S. has responded by deploying additional military forces to increase security in certain hotspots.

In a televised speech, Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah said the U.S. must be held accountable for the film, which was produced in the United States. The U.S. government has condemned the film.

"The ones who should be held accountable and boycotted are those who support and protect the producers, namely the U.S. administration," Nasrallah said. He called for protests on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

He urged protesters to call on their leaders to express their anger too.

"We should not only express our anger at an American embassy here or there. We should tell our rulers in the Arab and Muslim world that it is 'your responsibility in the first place' and since you officially represent the governments and states of the Muslim world you should impose on the United States, Europe and the whole world that our prophet, our Quran and our holy places and honor of our Prophet be respected," he told his followers in a televised speech.

Nasrallah said he waited to speak out about the film until Sunday, when Pope Benedict XVI ended his three-day trip to Lebanon.

In Pakistan, police fired tear gas and water cannons at the protesters in Karachi after they broke through the barricade and reached the outer wall of the U.S. Consulate, police officer Mohammad Ranjha said. The protesters threw stones and bricks, prompting the police to beat back the crowd with their batons. The police and private security guards outside the consulate also fired in the air to disperse the crowd.

One protester was killed during the clash, said Ali Ahmar, spokesman for the Shiite Muslim group that organized the rally.

An official with the main ambulance service in the city, Khurram Ahmad, confirmed they carried away one dead protester and 18 others who were injured.

All Americans who work at the consulate, which is located in the heart of Karachi, were safe, Rian Harris, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, said.

Thousands more held peaceful demonstrations against the film in other parts of the country, including the eastern city of Lahore and the northwest city of Dera Ismail Khan.

The demonstration in Lahore was organized by Jamaat-ud-Dawa, believed to be a front organization for a powerful militant group blamed for attacks in the Indian city of Mumbai in 2008 that killed over 160 people. The protesters shouted anti-U.S. slogans and burned an American flag.

"Our war will continue until America is destroyed!" shouted some of the protesters. "Dog, dog, America is a dog!" chanted others.

The head of Jamaat-ud-Dawa, Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, who has a $10 million U.S. bounty on his head, addressed the crowd and demanded the Pakistani government shut down the U.S. Embassy and all consulates in the country until the filmmakers are punished.

The protests were set off by a low-budget, crudely produced film called "Innocence of Muslims," which portrays Muhammad as a fraud, a womanizer and a child molester. A 14-minute excerpt of the film, which is both in English and dubbed into Arabic, has been available on YouTube, although some countries have cut access to the site.

The violence began Tuesday when mainly Islamist protesters climbed the U.S. Embassy walls in the Egyptian capital of Cairo and tore down the American flag from a pole in the courtyard.

Chris Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya, also was killed Tuesday along with three other Americans, as violent protesters stormed the consulate in Benghazi. President Barack Obama has vowed that the attackers would be brought to justice but also stressed that the U.S. respects religious freedom.

In a security shake-up following the attack on the consulate, the Libyan interior minister has fired three security officials in the eastern city, including the head of the Benghazi security sector, and the deputy interior minister in Benghazi, said senior security official Adel Rajouba. The decisions came following a government meeting and the three were fired because of "the lawlessness," Rajouba said.

The intensity of the anti-American fervor initially caught U.S. leaders by surprise, but in the last several days the Obama administration has called for calm and urged foreign governments to protect American interests in their countries.

"I think that we have to continue to be very vigilant because I suspect that ... these demonstrations are likely to continue over the next few days, if not longer," U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told reporters Sunday.

It has been unclear how much of the violence was spontaneously triggered by the film and how much of it was spurred on by anti-American militants using it as a tool to grow and enrage the crowds.

Libya's Interim President Mohammed el-Megarif said Sunday that the attackers who killed the U.S. ambassador in the country appeared to have spent months preparing and carefully choosing their date ? the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. He pointed to a second raid on a safe house. "All this indicates clearly that the attackers are well trained and well prepared and have planned this in advance," he said in an interview.

But the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, brushed aside his assessment, saying evidence gathered so far indicated it was a spontaneous reaction to the anti-Islam video and not a premeditated or coordinated strike.

"It seems to have been hijacked, let us say, by some individual clusters of extremists who came with heavier weapons," said Rice, referring to the mortars and rocket-propelled grenades used in the attack.

Whether the attackers had ties to al-Qaida or other terrorist groups has yet to be determined, Rice said, noting that the FBI has yet to complete its investigation.

It wouldn't be the first time that Western works critical of Islam have triggered spontaneous unrest throughout the Middle East, she said, pointing to the novel "Satanic Verses" by British author Salman Rushdie and the cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad published by a Danish newspaper in 2006.

A semiofficial religious foundation in Iran increased a reward it had offered for killing Rushdie to $3.3 million from $2.8 million, a hard-line Iranian newspaper reported Sunday, a move that appeared to be linked to the protests against the video.

Romney set to talk specifics of economic proposals

BURLINGTON, Massachusetts (Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney plans to talk up some specifics of his economic proposals as he enters a critical period of his campaign and tries to erase a small lead that President Barack Obama has built in the polls.

Romney's challenge is to keep it close until the campaign goes into its conclusive phase next month, when he and Obama met on October 3 for the first of three presidential debates that will dominate the final weeks leading up to the November 6 election.

In a race defined by the weakness of the U.S. economy, Romney needs to convince voters that they can trust him as the Obama campaign tries to raise doubts about the economic proposals he has offered, such as what government programs would he cut and how he would pay for a 20 percent across-the-board tax cut.

To that end, Romney advisers say the former Massachusetts governor plans this week to talk up the specifics of each of the five central points of his economic message: beefing up energy production and trade, improving education, cutting government spending and helping small businesses by, among other things, reducing regulations.

"We are, starting Monday, going to hammer on each aspect of the Romney plan for a stronger middle class," a senior Romney adviser said.

On Monday and Tuesday, Romney will talk about the United States' burdensome $16 trillion debt, Obama's role in making it bigger and ways to reduce it, a senior campaign aide said.

Romney has been pressing the five themes as part of his stump speech but has been under pressure from some conservatives to provide more specifics about his economic plans rather than simply campaign on the struggling economy and blame Obama for 8.1 percent unemployment.

The Romney senior adviser, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Romney's plans this week were not in reaction to the criticism.

Instead, it is more a response to voters' desire for both sides to talk in more detail about their plans. The adviser noted that Obama has faced questions as well about what he would do in a second term.

A raft of new surveys of American voters showed Obama got a measurable bounce of support from the Democratic National Convention earlier this month after being locked in a neck-and-neck battle with Romney for months.

The latest Gallup survey published on Sunday, however, showed Obama's lead narrowing slightly, with 48 percent for the president to 45 percent for Romney.

Romney aides feel the race remains as close as ever and that Obama's convention bounce will evaporate.

"We feel very good," said the adviser. "We just have to continue building our ground game."

DEBATE PREP

Romney's biggest test yet may come in the first debate, to be held in Denver. It will focus on domestic policy.

Romney engaged in a debate preparation session at a hotel on Sunday, the latest in a series of meetings aimed at studying up on how best to deal with Obama during the debates.

A senior Romney aide said the campaign sees the debates as a big opportunity for Romney's message to be heard by large numbers of voters.

"He's doing great," said the man who is playing the role of Obama in debate preparation, Ohio Republican Senator Rob Portman.

"Say nothing more, say nothing more," a chuckling Romney told reporters as they pressed Portman for more details on the Romney campaign plane on Friday.

Romney was headed to Los Angeles to speak to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on Monday in his latest attempt to connect with a Latino community that is distrustful of him due to the hard line he took on immigration during this year's Republican primaries.

Last week the campaign was dominated by foreign policy after four Americans were killed at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and Muslim anger at a film denigrating the Prophet Mohammad led to anti-American protests throughout much of the Middle East.

Romney's initial response to the bloodshed, criticizing the U.S. Embassy in Cairo for a statement he said was essentially an apology to the protesters, backfired on him and he spent days on the defensive, distracting attention away from his strict focus on the economy.

POWHATAN ? After shooting itself in each foot to kill a pair of promising early drives, all Fork Union Military Academy needed to get going was a couple of miscues from across the line of scrimmage.

C.J. Landrum?s interception return for a touchdown opened the floodgates as the Blue Devils won their third consecutive game, a 41-20 decision over non-league foe Powhatan on Friday night.

?We play slow,? Fork Union coach Micky Sullivan said. ?I don?t know why. We?ve started slow every game this year... it takes a little something, good or bad, to get us playing the way we ought to play.?

Landrum jumped a route and picked off Powhatan quarterback Wes Garrett one minute into the second quarter. He went 31 yards down the sideline to break a scoreless tie after a fumble and a penalty, respectively, had scuttled the first two possessions for Fork Union (3-1).

?When C.J. grabbed the ball and went to the house, that gave us a little fire in our butt, so to speak,? Sullivan said.

The Blue Devils quickly drove into the red zone on their first drive of the night, but a fumble killed their scoring chance. On the next Fork Union possession, a false start penalty negated a long pass that would have given the Devils a first down inside the Powhatan 5-yard line, forcing a punt.

Landrum?s return got his team going, as the Blue Devils needed less than two minutes to double their lead. Christian Hackenberg's pass was batted at the line of scrimmage, but Nick King corralled the ball and went 30 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead.

?I just kept my legs driving and fought forward,? King said.

King, who got the start when Jeremy Bell was left home for a rules violation, made the most of his opportunity, rushing for 114 yards and scoring four touchdowns.

?He had a great day, that?s all,? Sullivan said. ?He had been our backup. That?s up in the air now.?

The Indians (1-2) got on the board in the third quarter when backup quarterback Joe Lewis scrambled 36 yards for a touchdown. But Fork Union put the game away in the fourth quarter, sandwiching two King touchdown runs around a 39-yard scoring toss from Hackenberg to Chrystian Brown.

Fork Union returns to action at home next Friday against Christchurch.
